This month’s pattern was created using a collection of botanical sketches and quick weekly paintings from the past year. For anyone who is interested in the technical side of pattern making… this is the first pattern I’ve made in a raster format, as opposed to a vector format. A raster is a grid of pixels while a vector is a set of mathematical paths. The benefit of a vector pattern is that it can scale up in size indefinitely without losing visual quality whereas a raster will get blurry. However, rasters confer greater color nuance and therefore are a really fun option for making patterns out of watercolor paintings.
