May Digital Wallpaper: Bloodroot

Each month I share a new pattern as a digital downloadable screen wallpaper background. My patterns are inspired by nature and created from hand drawn or painted elements.  If you’d like to get the monthly wallpaper download delivered directly to your inbox, along with stories about the patterns and updates from my studio, you can sign up for my newsletter here.

Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis) is one of our earliest spring ephemeral wildflowers here in Vermont and is named for the red-orange juice in its roots and stems. While these flowers only bloom for a few days a year, their leaves stay green for the full growing season, capturing nutrients in their bloody roots for next year’s blooms. This month’s pattern aims to capture these charismatic, short-lived harbingers of spring.
